Life, Camera, Trend

Seven chapters, and the whole of them is a fall. It begins at the top of the city, where being watched is the same thing as being alive.

Begin with Chapter 1: Rising Heights

The descent punches through the cloud deck: the first towers of Rezo Thorn come up through the murk, window lights and a pale green glow bleeding into the cloud.

Epigraph

In these systems, story, perception, and reputation become primary economic assets. Narrative worlds export influence across MINDNet, shaping the perception of events and individuals across multiple star systems. Because economic flows increasingly respond to collective belief and narrative consensus, narrative worlds often exert disproportionate cultural influence over interstellar civilization.

Below the overcast: spires of the upper city under a pale green light, bridge spans threading between the towers, cloud still pooled beneath them.
Under the weather, above the city
Mid-descent among the towers: lit facades, holo signage and bridges crossing the canyons, everything hazed green by the city's own light.

Deep in the city: crossing girder spans frame a canyon of towers, advertising screens glowing in the dark and a river of traffic light far below.

Morning Edition · SUDR-1250.150

Good morning, Rezo Prime.

TREND SUMMARY

Yesterday, our corridor delivered 4.7 billion verified contributions to the chain. Together, we trended. Together, we held.

INSPIRATIONAL MESSAGE

Economy is Equilibrium. Equilibrium is Material × Intelligence × Network × Diversity. Every thread you weave, every breath of attention you offer, every interaction you log — these are the four terms of yourself, expressing themselves. When you trend, the system breathes. When you contribute, the system thrives. Equilibrium starts with you.

TODAY'S POH REMINDER

Your identity is your contribution — keep it current. Recertification clears in under sixty seconds at any SIL-Chain Renewal kiosk. A current score is a current life.

The city

Rezo Thorn at a glance

Part One happens inside a single city. Rezo Thorn is twenty kilometres across at the base and eight and a half kilometres tall at the tip of the Thorn; people live in the first seven, and the spire above them is machinery. Before the descent starts, this is the shape of the thing you are falling through.

Rezo Thorn seen from outside: a vast stepped octagonal megacity rising through a cloud sea, a field of separate towers above the cloud and a single central spire tapering to the Thorn.
The city from outside Rezo Thorn at full height: the stepped octagonal base, the cloud sea, and the Thorn above it all.
Cutaway section of Rezo Thorn: fragmented nested arcologies deep in the Vaults, dense Midtown bands above them, and the central Spine continuing up through Rezo Heights to the Apex taper.
The city cut open The same city in section: nested cities deep in the Vaults, Midtown narrowing above them, the Spine running on through the Heights to the Apex.
Before you go down

The strata Part One falls through

Rezo Thorn is a stepped pyramid seven kilometres tall, and altitude is status: the higher the level number, the more the city agrees you exist. Part One starts near the summit and ends well below the cloud line. These are the floors it passes on the way down.

Vertical hero view of Rezo Thorn showing its strata: a warm-lit industrial base, dense stepped mid bands wrapped in cloud, and the pale spire of the Thorn rising clear at the top.
The whole climb in one frame: the Stacks and Vaults burning at the base, Midtown in the middle bands, the Heights and the Thorn above the cloud.
From a sky-lift window above the cloud sea: the crystalline lattice of the crown climbing into clear light, the spires of the summit scattered across the cloud to the horizon.
Apex Heaven L1723 – L1712 The summit. Private suites and the Menagerie, where invitations are the currency.
The tower field of Rezo Heights at golden hour: holo-faced spires standing out of a sunset cloud sea, traffic lanes threading between them and a ship crossing overhead.
Rezo Heights & Upper Midtown L1321 – L1150 Opulence Tower, where Gwen wakes, and Jeda Worlds Plaza, where she is not on camera.
The Sector 46 market hall in full media frenzy: a crowd on the hall floor under tier after tier of screens, every one of them showing a face or an eye.
The Trendplateau L751 – the cloud break Three kilometres up, where the overcast sits and the feeds get hungrier.
A catwalk running out over a black void deep in the Upper Vaults: scavenged structure and cabling on every surface, lit by a few scattered work lamps.
The Upper Vaults L724 – L699 Below the signal floor. Where the city keeps what it has stopped counting.

How to read the city

Every place in this book has an address, and the addresses are readable: level first, then sector. Learn one (Gwen wakes at L1321-S4) and the rest of the city snaps into place.

Explanatory plate decoding the address L1321-S4: the level grid, the sector prism within its ring, and the conversion from level number to altitude.
Reading a Rezo address L1321-S4, unpacked: the level, the sector, and how the two lock a place in the city.
Top-down reader atlas of Rezo Thorn for Book One: ring bands over the stepped octagonal footprint, with public districts marked and a legend to the right.
The Book One atlas Where Book One happens, seen from directly above: the ring bands and public districts, kept spoiler-safe.
Sectional view of the Trendplateau district: the Lost Level civic ground and Kill Zone with its broken theatre spire below, and the brighter Exchange chamber suspended higher in Upper Midtown.
Trendplateau: one district, two heights The civic ground and Kill Zone on the Lost Level at three kilometres, and the Exchange above it in Upper Midtown. Chapter 4 country.
